The beautiful state of Sicily, located at the southern tip of the Italian boot, is famous for its sun, history, Mount Etna, good food and friendly people. But did you know that Sicily also has some really beautiful lakes to offer?
Even though most of them are of artificial origin and serve to supply the population with water, a wonderful natural environment has developed around these lakes that is well worth a visit. How about walking around the ten largest lakes in Sicily and earning the coveted collector's medal of the Iron Lake Challenge in the Edition „Sicilia“ bekommst? Du hast dabei keinen zeitlichen Stress und kannst diese Reise genießen. Dich erwarten ca. 160 Kilometer schönster Uferstrecke!
RULES
The rules for Iron Lake Challenge Sicily are very simple. Nevertheless, we would like to clarify them once again at this point:
- Sign up for the Iron Lake Challenge Sicily!
- To conquer the Iron Lake Challenge Sicily and earn the beautiful collector's medal, you have to walk around the ten largest lakes in Sicily after registering. Lakes that are partly on the territory of other federal states are not included in this challenge.
- Bicycles, skates, etc. are not allowed, but you are welcome to hike or run.
- Each lake must be circumnavigated "in one piece" unless special rules apply (see below in the descriptions of the lakes). This means that you are welcome to take breaks, but you should complete the lake within one day. Of course you can divide the 10 lakes into different days. Do only one lake per day, because you want to enjoy this time!
- The Iron Lake Challenge Trentino/South Tyrol has no time limit. This means that you can cycle around the ten lakes over several years.
- We trust you that you have really circumnavigated the lakes. However, if you want to be included in the time ranking, we need a copy of your tracking. We don't care what you use (watch, smartphone or app).
General PLEASE NOTE!
- Please note that traffic rules apply in public traffic areas and along roads and cycle paths. So move with consideration.
- You circumnavigate the lakes at your own risk and at your own risk. The operator of this website assumes no liability.
- Please heed medical advice if necessary or have a medical examination before the start of the Challenge. You are responsible for your own health, equipment and condition. Breaking off a tour is not a disgrace, health always comes first!
A few important rules for dealing with nature during your lake tour:
- Please take into account the local instructions for the protection of nature.
- Please do not go off the trails.
- Please do not make noise.
- Please do not collect rocks or minerals.
- Please do not collect mushrooms.
- Please do not leave any garbage lying around. Quite the opposite. Many of us even collect garbage.
- Please do not feed animals.
- Please do not make an open fire.
- Please do not pick plants.
This should be obvious to all of us, but it doesn't hurt to remember it from time to time.
REGISTRATION AND SCOPE OF SERVICES
Registration for the Iron Lake Challenge Sicily costs 24,- EUR.
In this entry fee is our Iron Lake Challenge “Sicilia Edition” Sammlermedaille and the green marble (20mm) of the Timeless Challenge .
However, you first have to circumnavigate the ten largest lakes in Sicily! Only then we will send you the well-deserved medal and marble! After all, you want to earn them and not get them as a gift.
How to register:

- You will now receive a registration confirmation
- Now you have to walk around the ten largest lakes in Sicily. As soon as you have completed the ten lakes, please send us an extract of your tracking as proof. We will also believe you without tracking, but then you will not be included in the honor roll.
- After we have checked this, you will receive your well-deserved medal and marble. Easy, isn't it?

LIFE SCORE POINTS AND THE TIMELESS MARBLE
The Iron Lake Challenge is part of our Timeless Challenge. Therefore, you deserve (in addition to the collector's medal) the marble in green (health/sport). This will also be sent to you. The marble will have a diameter of 20mm.
You earn with your performance approx. 16 Life Score points. These are automatically credited to you in our honor roll. This service is free of charge for you.

Lago Biviere di Lentini
Der Lago di Lentini wird auch „Biviere“ genannt und ist der größte See Siziliens und liegt in der Nähe von Lentini (Provinz Syrakus). Seine Fläche beträgt zwölf Quadratkilometer. Um ihn einmal zu umrunden musst Du mit ungefähr 20 Kilometern rechnen. Nimm in den Sommermonaten genug zu trinken mit!

Lago Pozzillo
Der Lago Pozzillo ist der größte Stausee Siziliens und wurde 1959 fertig gestellt. Er liegt in der Nähe der Ortschaft Regalbuto und bekommt sein Wasser von dem Fluss „Salso“, welcher ein Nebenfluss des Simeto ist. Dich erwartet eine wunderschöne Natur, denn dieser künstliche See wurde komplett von der Natur zurückerobert. Besonders schön sind die an den Ufern gelegenen Eukalyptusbäume. Dich erwarten (je nach gewählter Tour zwischen 20 und 30 Kilometer)

Lago di Ogliastro
Der Lago di Ogliastro ist ein künstlich angelegter See auf Sizilien, in der Provinz Enna und der Provinz Catania. Er wird von dem Fluss Gornalunga gespeist. Der See und seine Umgebung beinhalten ein reiches Ökosystem mit vielen, verschiedenen Vogelarten. Seit 1974 schmückt eine Majolikatafel von Andrea Parini eines seiner Ufer, und der See wurde von der Europäischen Union als „Site of Community interest“ anerkannt. Der Weg drumherum ist ca. 25 Kilometer lang.

Lago Garcia
Lago Garcia is a lake in the province of Palermo, Sicily. Situated at an altitude of 194 m, its surface area is 5.07 km². You need to calculate approx. 25 kilometers for a circumnavigation.

Lago Rosamarina
Lago Rosamarina (also known as Lago Digao) is one of the largest lakes in Sicily and is famous for its clear water and abundance of fish. Other sporting activities such as sailing, windsurfing, canoeing etc. can also be practiced here. The entire area surrounding the lake, around the village of Caccamo, is well worth a visit. To walk around the lake, you need to plan about 18 kilometers.

Lago Nicoletti
The artificial Lake Nicoletti (Lago Nicoletti) is a lake in the province of Enna in Sicily. Its dam impounds the river Dittaino between the towns of Leonforte and Enna. Regionally, this lake is known as a hot spot for various water sports, which are practiced here with passion by the locals.

Lago Arancio
Lago Arancio is a reservoir in the Monti Sicani in the area of the three municipalities of Sambuca di Sicilia, Santa Margherita di Belice and Sciacca. Situated between green fields, it is beautiful to look at and well worth a visit. The path along the shore is about 18 kilometers long.

Lago di Piana degli Albanesi
The Lago di Piana degli Albanesi is an artificial lake near Santa Cristina Gela in Sicily. The reservoir is fed by smaller tributaries.

Most of the lake can certainly be walked along the shore. However, for those who prefer paved paths, we have a Google Maps circular route constructed.
Lago San Giovanni
Lago San Giovanni is located near Naro and Contrada Ramocoburro. The lake lies in a beautiful landscape with lots of green vegetation. It is particularly popular with anglers for its abundance of fish. You have to reckon with a circumnavigation of approx. 11 kilometers.

Lago della Trinitá
Der Lago della Trinità befindet sich im Freien Gemeindekonsortium Trapani auf Sizilien. Er ist ein künstlicher See mit einem ca. 600 Meter langen Küstenstreifen. Gespeist wird der See von dem Fluss „Delia“ und das Wasser fließt im Fluss „Arena“ wieder ab.

Here you can quickly and easily enter your results and upload the evidence (e.g. screen copy of your tracking). We check them and approve them. Then your result is saved and appears in the honor roll.

This is how our honor board works
- Register on our site
- Select the lake you are circumnavigating under "Summit/Lake
- Enter the distance you have covered (in meters) under "Length / Mountain height (in m)"
- Enter the required time (in minutes) under "Time needed (in min).
- Enter the date of your circumnavigation under "date"
- Now you can upload the evidence (e.g. a screenshot of your tracking) under "Upload proof (optional)"
- Now all you have to do is SAVE!
- We check your round and release it. Then you will see your result in the ranking.
