Rules
The rules for the Iron Lake Challenge Sicily are very simple. However, we would like to clarify them once again below.
- Sign up for the Iron Lake Challenge Sicily!
To complete the Iron Lake Challenge Sicily and earn the beautiful collector's medal, you must hike around the ten largest lakes in Sicily on foot after registering. Lakes located partly on the territory of other countries are not taken into account for this challenge. - Bicycles, skates, and similar vehicles are not permitted, but you are free to walk or run.
- Each lake must be completed in 'one go', unless special rules apply (see the individual lake descriptions below). This means you can take as many breaks as you like, but you should complete the loop around the lake within a single day. You can, of course, spread the 10 lakes over multiple days. Just do one lake per day, because the goal is also to enjoy your time!
- The Iron Lake Challenge Sicily has no time limit. This means you can complete the tour of the ten lakes even over the course of several years.
- We trust that you really completed the tour of the lakes. However, if you would like to be included in the timed leaderboard, we need a copy of your GPS track. It doesn't matter which device you use (watch, smartphone, or app).
General Information – ATTENTION
- Remember that in public spaces, as well as along roads and bike paths, the rules of the road apply. Therefore, move cautiously and respectfully.
- You undertake the tour of the lakes at your own risk. The operator of this website assumes no liability.
- Please follow any medical advice or consult a doctor before starting the challenge. You are solely responsible for your state of health, your equipment, and your physical fitness. Cutting a tour short is nothing to be ashamed of—health always comes first!
Some important rules to respect nature during your tour around the lake:
- Please respect local guidelines for nature protection.
- Please do not leave the paths.
- Please don't make any noise.
- Please do not collect rocks or minerals.
- Please do not pick mushrooms.
- Please do not leave any litter. In fact, quite the opposite: many of us even pick it up along the way.
- Please do not feed the animals.
- Please do not light fires outdoors.
- Please do not pick the plants.
This should be clear to all of us, but it doesn't hurt to remind ourselves from time to time.
