Why is sitting upright useful and important?
In an upright sitting posture, the forces acting on your muscles due to gravity are kept as low as possible. The spine retains its natural double-S shape and is loaded evenly. A certain amount of strain is important, because this is how your back muscles are stressed and strengthened.
How to sit upright correctly?
- Sit upright with pelvis tilted forward and thighs slightly sloping
- Your thighs form an angle of 45-60°.
- Your shoulder girdle rests on your chest without muscular tension, your head looks straight ahead.
- Lift your sternum slightly forward and upward as if your solar plexus were looking upward
- Stretch the back of your head upwards so that the cervical spine is stretched

Basically, you should change your sitting positions more often, because the movement is good for your back. That's why we have the following tips for you:
- Relieve your back once an hour (whenever you think of it) for a few minutes by going into a relief posture. To do this, simply rest your elbows on your thighs and breathe deeply in and out.
- Sit upside down on your chair from time to time. This is the so-called riding seat
- If you have an ergonomic desk chair, you can take advantage of the movable backrest and lean back for a few minutes every now and then. The backrest should always be loosened.
- Exercise breaks. Get up once an hour, get a glass of water and move around a bit.
